This came up recentlly and since we are redoing rules I figure we might as well discuss it (or make members vote).
Someone asked me if they can match bids other than the high bid. In this particular case there were 3 people; A, B and C. Person A had a bid for more points than C had (ie locked them out) so Person C put in a minimum bid. Shortlly before bidding was locked, Person B bid for more than person C (but still at a level where person C could match).
When asked by C if they could match B even though they werent the high bid I said no. However they do have a point that in their situation they COULDNT match the high bid. In the end the details were moot cause B wound up matching A and so C was SOL anyway.
Anway thoughts?

So the question is:
Can only the high bidder be matched? Or, can a member match any bid?

You should be able to bid any amount of points you can afford.
Person C should have been allowed to match person B in your scenario, in my opinion.

I think people should be able to match any bid that's a) posted after theirs and b) is higher. Not everyone's aiming for the first drop, and I think our concept of protection against ninja bidding applies equally to every potential drop, not just the first.

i think we should just end bid matching all together on our part. If a member wants to match a bid it's up to them to send us a /tel ingame before we break the glass.

i think we should just end bid matching all together on our part. If a member wants to match a bid it's up to them to send us a /tel ingame before we break the glass. That wouldn't fix this problem, nor any of the other complaints about matching. It'd just make it pointlessly harder to match, since people wouldn't know which sack to /tell or whether that sack has the time to handle match tells. I don't think trying to discourage people from matching really makes the system any more fair.

I don't think that either direction is any more/less fair. And there isn't any more work involved either way. But, the higest bid should be the only teir you can match. Extending it any futher would probably result in more matched bids simply out of laziness and it undermines why we have bidding in the first place. There is something to say about independence.
